- YouTuber Tavarish released a video on Christmas Eve where he bought a pink and purple minivan that appeared on Pimp My Ride
- The minivan appeared on season 6, episode 7, of Pimp My Ride titled, “Laila’s Grand Voyager”
- Since at least April 2018 the famous minivan was seen for sale on Craigslist after sitting for years
On Tuesday, YouTube vlogger Tavarish uploaded a new video to his over one million subscribers titled “I Bought An ABANDONED ‘Pimp My Ride’ Minivan For $850 And It’s Worse Than You Think.” The video has already received just under 700,000 views.
If you don’t remember the MTV show “Pimp My Ride,” the basic premise behind the show was simple. MTV would find people with shitty cars, show up at their house and “surprise” them, then they would throw fancy paint and ridiculous gimmicks on the vehicles. They would not actually fix any of the mechanical issues because apparently the car did not need to be drivable to be pimped. The show was hosted by rapper Xzibit and audiences loved it. The first episode aired on March 4, 2004 and the last episode aired six seasons later on December 30, 2007.
The Pink And Purple Minivan From Pimp My Ride
According to Tavarish, he was able to buy the pink And purple minivan from Pimp My Ride that had seen better days for $850. Which is cheaper than what the van was listed for last year. Last year the van popped up on Craigslist for $1,400. Oddly enough, in the ad the van is listed as a “1999 Dodge Grand Caravan was on the TV show ‘Pimp My Ride’. You can view episode on internet, just search, ‘Plymouth Grand Voyager on Pimp My Ride.'” The minivan was seen on season 6, episode 7, titled, “Laila’s Grand Voyager.”
Some of you may have noticed the van was referred to as a “1999 Dodge Grand Caravan” but the Pimp My Ride episode called it a “Plymouth Grand Voyager.” The minivan was still up for sale in October so The Drive contacted the seller who explained, “Laila’s van was such a piece of junk it was not worth investing in so the show bought a 77,000-mile, beautiful condition Dodge Caravan and pimped that.”
The Minivan Sat For Years Before Tavarish Bought It
At the time of the initial Craigslist ad, the van had been sitting for over three years. The ad claimed the minivan had over 120,000 miles and some damage to the paint and ground effects. The TV footrest was removed but included with the van and appears to still work in Tavarish’s video. All other components from the van’s appearance on MTV were there, except for the “exhaust sound machine” which was removed by the show before being returned to the owner. The HuffPost found the show would regularly remove some of the tacky gimmicks after filming but before returning the vehicle to the owner.
The ad says the minivan was located in Dighton, Massachusetts. From sitting for years, the minivan needed brakes, alternator, idler pulley, coolant line, serpentine belt, a couple of tires, and the airbag light was on. That list appears to have grown a bit after watching Tavarish go on a shopping spree for things the minivan needed. Much to Tavarish’s surprise, the minivan actually started for him and did not sound as terrible as anyone expected without any work. According to the previous owner, Laila sold the minivan to pay for her wedding and honeymoon.
