- On Sunday, Ohio Rep Candice Keller blamed the LGBT community, recreational marijuana, and other issues for Sunday’s mass shooting
- On Monday, Ohio GOP party leader Jane Timken called for Keller’s resignation for her opinion on the shooting
- Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones also called for Keller to resign from her seat in a tweet
Ohio Republican Party leader Jane Timken called on Ohio Representative Candice Keller to resign from her seat following a Facebook post damning “transgender, homosexual marriage, and drag queen advocates” for the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio.
Candice Keller’s Rant On Dayton Shooting
Along with blaming the LGBT community, Keller also placed blame on the Democratic Congress, former President Barack Obama, violent video games, immigrant law, recreational marijuana, school policies, a hatred of veterans and snowflakes for the tragic shooting that claimed nine lives early Sunday morning. The post was later removed from her Facebook, but not before screenshots began circulating on social media.
Jane Timken Calls On Candice Keller To Resign
Keller’s opinion on the shooting received backlash from both Republicans and Democrats. By Monday afternoon, Timken was calling for her to resign. Timken said Keller’s comments were “shocking and utterly unjustifiable.” The GOP leader also claimed the comments were “promoting divisiveness.”
While our nation was in utter shock over the acts of violence in El Paso and Dayton, Republican State Representative Candice Keller took to social media to state why she thought these acts were happening. Candice Keller’s Facebook post was shocking and utterly unjustifiable. Our nation is reeling from these senseless acts of violence and public servants should be working to bring our communities together, not promoting divisiveness.Jane Timken Via USA Today
This is the first time Timken — who normally stays out of political disagreements — has called on someone to resign. Keller is currently running for Bill Coley’s Senate seat in Ohio. While Keller and Timken have not personally spoken, in a statement she said she would continue her Senate campaign “to the voters to decide.”
Establishment moderates have never been fans of mine because I ran against their endorsement and won. As the only conservative in this race, I will be taking my Senate campaign to the voters to decide.Candice Keller Via USA Today
Butler County Sheriff Robert Jones Calls For Candice Keller To Resign
Timken was not alone in her request for Keller to resign. Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones tweeted out on Monday, “Candice Keller should resign at once. Shame shame.” When speaking with The Enquirer, Jones said Keller’s comment was “very embarrassing.” Jones said Keller does not represent the people in her community and went on to say “She’s made a laughingstock out of Butler County, which is a shame.”
