Social media users were apparently confused when they thought 52-year-old Halle Berry would be playing Ariel in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. In reality, the role was given to 19-year-old Halle Bailey.
A Tale Of Two Halle’s
It is an innocent enough mistake. After the announcement that Bailey would be playing Ariel in the remake set to begin production in 2020 people believed they saw Berry as the Halle that had been cast. Possibly adding to the confusion, Berry tweeted out a congratulations to Bailey that read “Halles get it DONE.” She ended the tweet with the hashtags “#TheLittleMermaid” and “#HalleBailey.”
It could be possible that Berry has become such a household name people automatically assumed it was her. Regardless of why it happened, people began admitting their confusion on Twitter.
Bailey is one half of the R&B duo Chloe X Halle, which means she has the voice to play Ariel. After finding out she had got the role, Bailey said it was “a dream come true.” According to The Wrap, Rob Marshall is directing, and the film is produced by John DeLuca, Marc Platt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. David Magee (“Mary Poppins Returns”) wrote the script.
